Open call to writers!

I am in the process of putting together an anthology of work by teenagers regarding eating disorders, self-image, and body acceptance. I am looking for submissions of poetry, song lyrics, short stories, and essays -- both fiction and nonfiction -- that run anywhere between 200 -- 5,000 words. For submission guidelines, scroll to the bottom of this message.

Aside from writers, I am also in search of one or two partners to assist in editing the completed manuscript. All inquiries may be sent to: insecthoroscope@aol.com and only serious candidates need apply. You should be serious, committed, and have a strong knowledge of grammar and the English language. You WILL be screened.

I am currently in search of an agent to handle the completed manuscript. If you are a literary agent interested in tackling the project, please send an e-mail to insecthoroscope@aol.com . The collection should be completed and ready for editing by early to mid-March, and run at about 50,000 words.

Submission Guidelines for Writers

The piece must fall between 200 and 5,000 words. It may be poetry, song lyrics, a short story, or an essay. It should be spell-checked and edited by you before being submitted (any submissions with glaring errors within the first few sentences will be deleted immediately, without being read). It MUST be on or related to the topic of eating disorders, self-image, or body acceptance. Acceptable subjects include: personal struggles with anorexia/bulimea, the effect of the media on self-image, compulsive overeating, thoughts on the pro-ED movement etc. I am open to your interpretations of what it means to be young and struggling with an ED, but if I cannot find any relation to the topic whatsoever, your entry will be deleted.

You may enter up to five poems or songs and two stories or essays. All submissions may be sent to: insecthoroscope@aol.com and MUST include the following information:

Real Name:
Pen Name (Optional):
Age:
E-mail Address:
Location (Optional):
Personal Bio (Optional):

If I am interested in possibly using your piece, you will receive an e-mail within three days to a week. Because of the volume of submissions, I am unable to answer rejections personally, so if you do not hear back, please assume we could not use your work.

Good luck!
